Former Dracut Town Manager James Duggan is one of three finalists being considered for the position of Town Administrator for the town of Mattapoisett.
Duggan, along with fellow finalists Michael Lorenco and John Bugbee, were interviewed by the Mattapoisett Board of Selectmen. The selectmen have been following up by checking references of the candidates this week and are expected to make announce their recommendation at their Feb. 4 meeting, according to a published report in The Wanderer.
Mattaposett is a town of less than 6,400 residents, located in Plymouth County at the entrance to Cape Cod.
Duggan resigned last year after a tumultuous tenure in Dracut, which featured numerous problems within the police department, clashes with the Firefighters Union, lawsuits against the town, and scandal involving the town's handling of bidding and procurements.
He had previously served as town administrator in Gloucester.
During his time in Dracut, Duggan received praise from friends and foes alike for his successes relating to economic development. He stressed his strength in that area during is Mattapoisett interview last week.
Bugbee was the town administrator for Tisbury for nine years.
Lorenco is a former Mattapoisett resident and is now assistant town administrator in Eastham.
