Dracut Rotary To Host Annual Tree Lighting, Gingerbread House Competition On Saturday

The Dracut Rotary Club will be hosting its 13th annual gingerbread house competition on Saturday, Dec. 7

“This is our holiday gift to the town,” said club president Frank Antifonario. “It’s held on the same day as the tree lighting ceremony at the school complex on Lakeview Avenue,” added Frank. “It’s a special day for us and we are accepting registrations now,” he added.

Proceeds from the competition will benefit the Dracut Food Pantry, according to Tami Dristilaris, this year’s event chair. The concept was initially Dristilaris' idea more than a decade ago and it has been a popular annual event ever since.

The competition will be held at Dracut’s Gagnon (Harmony) Hall, on Lakeview Avenue, from 11:00 am to 7:00 pm. There is no charge for admission. Guests are only asked to bring donations for Dracut’s Food Pantry. There will be cookie decorating for children all day, holiday music will be featured, refreshments will be available, and Santa will stop by from 5:00 to 7:00 pm.

Members of the public can vote for their favorite house and could even win a chance to take one home. The winners will be announced at 7 p. m.

Aspiring gingerbread architects can enter in one of four categories: professional bakers, amateur adults, young adults ages 13 to 19, and children up to age 12.

The event will be held in conjunction with the town’s tree- lighting ceremony (6 p.m.) at the adjacent Daoulas School Complex on Lakeview Avenue.
