A Dracut woman is facing drunk driving charges, following a crash that seriously injured a bicyclist near the Lowell/Tewksbury town line.
According to a Lowell Police press release, Jacquelyn Hopkinson was operating under the influence of alcohol when the Toyota sedan she was driving struck the victim's bike on Rogers Street, near Route 38, around 9 p.m., Sunday.
According to an article published by the Lowell Sun, a witness who immediately checked on the victim said he was unconscious and has sustained serious visible injuries, but was breathing. The victim, whose name has not been released, was treated by first responders and med-flighted to a Boston Hospital trauma unit.
According to the press release, Hopkinson had been at the Burger King restaurant in Tewksbury, about a half-mile away, and was traveling into Lowell at a high rate of speed at the time of the crash.
The incident remains under investigation and, according to police, additional charges may be filed. The condition of the victim was not available as of Wednesday morning.
