12 Dracut Runners Conquer The Elements And The Boston Marathon Course

 A little wind and rain did nothing to dampen the spirits of local runners among the estimated 30,000 athletes competing in the 123rd running of the Boston Marathon on Monday.
Kenyan Lawrence Cherono grabbed the top prize in one of the most thrilling finishes in race history. Cherono outkicked Lisisa Desisa of Ethiopia to break the tape in 2:07:57. Desisa was hot on his heels in 2:07:59.
Scott Fauble of Arizona was the top American, placing 7th in 2:09:09.
Worknesh Degefa Ethiopia took first place among the women with far less drama. Degefa cruised to victory in a time of 2:23:31, over Edna Kiplagat of Kenya (2:24:13). American Jordan Hasey was third in 2:25:20.
Other winners included Daniel Romanchuk (Men's Wheelchair), Tom Davis (Men's Handcycle), Manuela Schar (Women's Wheelchair)and Devann Murphy (Women's Handcycle).
There were 12 Dracut runners who completed the 26.2 mile course from Hopkinton to Boston. 
Among the local runners, the top finisher was Shannon Mitton-Talbot, 37, who crossed the finish line in a solid time of 3:27:07. The top local male was Bill Dumont, 60, who finished in 3:28:43. Dumont finished an impressive 71st in his age/gender division.
