What's the best cliche to use to describe the Dracut High boys basketball team?
Worst to first?
Outhouse to the penthouse?
With one more victory, the Middies will make things very simple. They will just be called "Champions."
Senior Mitchell Monette drained a three-pointer with 15 seconds left in the fourth quarter, and sophomore JC Santiago hit a pair of free throws, lifting 12-seeded Dracut (13-10) to a stunning 73-69 win over top-seeded St. Mary's of Lynn (22-3), in the Division 3 North Semifinals, Wednesday night.
With the win, the Middies earned a berth in the sectional final against No. 10 Weston, Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Tsongas Arena in Lowell. Weston (13-10), advanced with a 65-61 semifinal win over No. 3 Shawsheen Tech (19-4).
Dracut, 1-19 just a year ago, has made amazing strides under first-year coach Brian Myers. A big part of that success has been the play of freshman phenom Adrian Torres, who led the Middies with 13 points against St. Mary's, a team that entered the game ranked No. 4, overall, in Eastern Mass. by the Boston Herald.
Monette added 12 points, five assists and four steals.  Cam McCullough and Will Peters chipped in with 10 points and six rebounds apiece and did a tremendous job against the huge St. Mary's frontcourt.
The win was even more impressive, considering St. Mary's led 34-33 at halftime and looked to be pulling away, 46-38, midway through the third quarter. But Dracut rallied and took a 55-50 lead in the fourth quarter.
This time it was St. Mary's turn to fight back, taking a 59-58 lead in the final minute, setting the stage for the heroics by Monette and Santiago.
