French Claims 182-Pound Title,Leads Dracut Grapplers To 3rd Place Finish At D2 States

Dracut High senior Allyn French pulled out a thrilling 9-8 win over Sean McCullough of Lynnfield/North Reading to claim the 182-pound title at the Division 2 State Wrestling Championships, last weekend.
With the win, French avenged his loss to McCullough in the North Sectional final, and helped the Middies to a tie for third in the D2 team standings with 81 points. Central Catholic dominated the tournament to claim the team championship with 167 points, with North Attleborough second at 104.5, followed by Dracut and Masconomet.
French pinned  Lacyre Fleurimond of Milton in the opening round. He followed up with a 3-1 win over  Liam Rizk of North Attleborough in the quarters and a 3-1 win over Luke Fitch in the semifinals.
French will be moving on to the All-State Championship Tournament this weekend.
Also placing well for Dracut:
Senior Devin Lambert, coming off a North Sectional title, placed 3rd at 145. After dropping a heartbreaking 2-1 decision in the semifinals, Lambert rebounded in the consolation bracket to knock off Jake Adelmann of Natick and move into the 3rd place match against South champ  Luke Barnes of Hingham. In a back-and-forth match, Lambert pulled out a 6-4 win.
Sophomore Dante Rossetti placed 4th at 120, working his way through the consolation bracket to post a record of 4-2.
Ty Stewart placed 7th at 113, with a record of 3-2.
Sophomore Calvin Desmarais placed 7th at 160, with a record of 3-2.
