Robert (Bob) E. Soucier
WESTFORD- Robert (Bob) E. Soucier, 84, passed away on Monday, January 14th, 2019 at the Advent Hospital in Daytona Beach, Florida, surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Eleanor M. (Bell) Soucier, with whom he shared 54 years of marriage.
Bob was born on May 18, 1934 a son of the late Mildred (Morrison) and Edmond Soucier. Bob was raised in Lowell and grew up attending several schools in the city.
He loved boxing and started his career in the late 40's. He became one of the champs in the Silver Mittens under the leadership of Father Savage. He then enlisted in the U.S. Navy, served his country proudly during the Korean War. However, he continued his passion for boxing by joining the Navy's boxing team. He brought many championships back to his ship. Bob was also chosen to be on a Good Will tour around the world on the Coral Sea after the Korean War. In 2002, Bob became the President of Ring 99 and was also a judge at the Lowell Golden Gloves.
Bob was employed as a Correction Officer in Concord, MA for 22 years, retiring in 1987. He then went to work for Raytheon for 15 years, retiring in 2002.
He was very proud of his Irish heritage. Bob always celebrated St. Patrick's Day with his family and friends. His most memorable experience was being able to travel with his wife to Ireland, where he visited his grandparents hometowns. Bob also frequented the Lowell YMCA, where he made many friends.
On many occasions, people called Bob a gentleman and he will be remembered as such.
