Jan 10, 2019 06:21AM ● By Theresa Gilman
Edward P. Cloutier, of Dracut, died Friday, Jan. 4, 2019, peacefully in his home surrounded by his loving family, following a lengthy illness. He was the husband of Claire F. (Dufour) Cloutier, with whom he would have celebrated 48 years of marriage in February.

He was born in Lowell, Aug. 27, 1946, son of the late Edward A. and Marie (Simard) Cloutier. He was raised in Dracut and attended Dracut schools, graduating from Dracut High School in 1965.

Following high school, he enrolled in the Navy, where he served his country for four years during the Vietnam era. Upon returning to Massachusetts, he met his wife, Claire, and began working for the former New England Telephone Co., where he was employed for 25 years.

When he was 27 years old, Mr. Cloutier was diagnosed with a rare, inoperable pineal brain tumor. Through the care of physicians at Massachusetts General Hospital, he survived cancer, spawning his nickname, Miracle Man.

An avid fisherman, you could often find him accompanying his sons and grandsons on fishing excursions. He also greatly enjoyed going out to eat, watching football and spending time with his large extended family. He will be remembered by those who knew and loved him as a kind, warm, gentle, thoughtful loving man to everyone he met.

Aside from his wife, he is survived by two sons, Edward L. Cloutier and his wife, Denise (Dufresne), and Robert Cloutier and his longtime girlfriend, Jessica Couture, all of Dracut; four grandchildren, Zachary Cloutier and his fiancee, Rachel Peloquin, Nicholas Cloutier and his girlfriend, Macenzie Ruiz, Kayla Duhamel and Kori Cloutier, all of Dracut; two great-grandchildren, Annabelle Ruiz-Troy and Logan Cloutier, of Dracut; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Elaine (Cloutier) (Wilson) Leblanc and her husband, Pete, of Merrimack, N.H., and Jeanne (Cloutier) Klinkowski and her husband, Frank, of Winter Haven, Fla.; four sisters- and brothers-in-law, Donna (Dufour) Cummings and her husband, Michael, of Gilford, N.H., Debra (Dufour) Connolly and her husband, John, of Pelham, N.H., Alfred "Freddy" Dufour and his wife, Suzanne (Gilbert), of Merrimack, N.H., and JoAnne Dufour and her wife, Ellen O'Shea, of Nashua, N.H. He was also a proud, loving uncle to several nieces and nephews.

He was also the son-in-law of the late Beatrice (Morin) and Lionel Dufour, and brother-in-law of the late Theodore and Lorraine Miller, Diane Wagman and Ralph Wilson.

ARRANGEMENTS: Edward's funeral service will take place on SATURDAY, January 12th at NOON in St. Joseph's Cemetery Chapel, 96 Riverneck Road, Chelmsford, MA.
