Middies, Gryphons

Greater Lowell Tech 3, Essex Tech 0
The Greater Lowell boys varsity soccer team improved to 5-2-4 on the season with a solid 3-0 win over Essex Tech.

Jared Marchand, Cole Blades and Enrico Nuttoli had the goals for the Gryphons. Playing well in the win were Jacob Gonzalez, Nick Matta and Carlos Nicolau.

Tewksbury 1, Dracut 0

Senior  R.J. Florino had the only goal of the game, as Tewksbury slipped past racut, 1-0, in a battle of MVC powers.

In the second half, Greg Sencabaugh ripped a free kick that was saved, but Florino was there to knock home the loose ball for the game-winner.

Tewksbury improved to 6-2-1 with the win. Dracut, which as dropped two straight, is now 6-2-2.

Tewksbury keeper Liam Cafferty made six saves to record the shutout.

Acton-Boxboro 35, Dracut 7

Dracut High, which had cruised to victories in its first three games of the season, ran into a buzzsaw over the weekend, falling to DCL powerhouse Acton-Boxboro, 35-7.

The Colonials (5-0) jumped on the Middies early, taking a 21-0 lead in the first quarter.

Dracut quarterback Devin Lambert completed just 6 of 12 passes for 62 yards and was intercepted twice. One of those interceptions was returned for a touchdown for the first score of the game.

Lambert did find Joe Petka for an 8-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter, cutting the deficit to 21-7. But that was all the offense the Middies (3-1) could muster. Allyn French was held to 36 yards rushing on seven carries.

Greater Lowell 34, Lynn Tech 8

It was supposed to be a tight battle between CAC leaders, but Greater Lowell made it a laugher, building a 28-0 halftime lead and coasting past Lynn Tech, 34-8.

Benji Hach led the Gryphons (4-1) with 17 carries for 126 yards and a touchdown. Quarterback Jeremy Gray through for 110 yards and a touchdown.

But the real star of the game was the Greater Lowell defense. The Gryphons scored a safety and a pair of defensive touchdowns on a 27-yard fumble return by Develle Smith and a 28-yard interception return by Dawson Bedard.

Lynn Tech dropped to 3-2

Greater Lowell 3, Cathedral 0
The Gryphons are now 6-6 on the season.
