ANDOVER, MA — State Senator Barbara L’Italien (D-Andover), candidate for Congress in the 3rd District, issued the following statement in a video in response to her opponent Dan Koh’s false denials of his failures in handling a sexual harassment claim at City Hall:
“Mr. Koh says I’m making false personal attacks. The reality is there’s nothing false about them, and nothing in his statement or the lawsuit says otherwise. He is not being honest - Dan Koh failed this woman, and he knows it. He isolated her in hopes that she would go away.

“At least one woman was sexually harassed in City Hall, and when she bravely asked for help she was punished for it. Dan Koh met with her, and two days later she was stripped of her responsibilities and transferred to a do-nothing job, which we know from the lawsuit she filed in which Koh is a central player. (A copy of the lawsuit is attached in PDF format.)

“My record is clear. I have never been afraid to put my own neck on the line for vulnerable people, and I have stood alongside victims of sexual misconduct before. I was the first person to call on Senate President Stan Rosenberg to step down and to resign. I stood alone in that position at first, but it led to justice for his husband’s victims. I take this seriously. I think this district deserves a representative who takes sexual assault seriously - just like Niki Tsongas has. That’s why I rolled out a broad-based platform on how to hold people accountable for sexual assault.”

“Voters deserve to understand this situation, and this district has a choice: a representative who will stick their neck out for victims and vulnerable people, or a representative who will turn their back.”
Senator L’Italien has issued a comprehensive and broad-based plan to increase accountability for sexual misconduct, which can be read here.
