William F. Mackey, 85
He attended East Boston schools before enlisting in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He served in Germany on the Air Force Crash Crew.
Bill returned home and worked for 42 years as a fire fighterfor Massport until he retired in 1997 as Assistant Fire Chief at Logan Airport.
He was pre-deceased by his parents, as well as Robert, Richard and Thomas Mackey, Rita Joyce, Elizabeth Layne, Lorraine Fournier and Madeline O'Keefe. William is survived by his loving wife of 62 years Elizabeth (Gallant) Mackey of Dracut, one daughter; Debra and her husband Jack Hovanasian of Dracut, three sons; William F. Mackey, Jr. of Tewksbury, Thomas Mackey, Deputy Chief of Dracut Fire Dept, Ken Mackey and his wife Sandra (Farley) of Tewksbury, one sister; Marjorie DiManno of South Boston. There are 11 Grandchildren, 6 Great-grandchildren, and another great-granddaughter due in December, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family extends its thanks to the Lahey Medical Center staff, which cared for him well and extended many kindnesses.
Relatives and friends are invited to call on Saturday, August 25th at Edgar J. Racicot, Inc. Funeral Home, 1400 Broadway Rd., DRACUT, from 9:00am to 10:30am. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 11:00am at St. Francis Church, 115 Wheeler Road, Dracut followed by his interment in Tewksbury Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to Catie's Closet, 19 School Street, Dracut, MA.
