The Planned Parenthood Advocacy Fund of Massachusetts (PPAF) endorses Sabrina Heisey to represent the 36th Middlesex District of the Massachusetts House of Representatives. PPAF is the advocacy and political arm of Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts, and works to elect sexual and reproductive health allies like Heisey to all levels of government. Heisey is challenging Representative Colleen Garry, a proponent of restricting access to reproductive health care, in the Democratic Primary.

“As a school committee member, Sabrina understands that education and health care access help build the foundation for thriving communities. As a state representative, Sabrina will advocate for policies that break down barriers to health care and education to ensure everyone has the opportunity to lead a healthy, fulfilling life,” said Dr. Jennifer Childs-Roshak, PPAF President. “For 23 years, Rep. Garry has put her ideological agenda ahead of the needs of her district’s residents. The people of the 36th Middlesex District deserve better and should feel confident knowing Sabrina will tirelessly fight for their health and rights.”

Garry has supported multiple bills that fly in the face of medical science and are solely intended to undermine access to safe, legal abortion and shame women. Garry cosponsors legislation to “defund” Planned Parenthood health centers. She has cosponsored bills that would arbitrarily ban certain abortion proceduresmandate state-scripted information and waiting periods for women seeking abortion, and exploit racist stereotypes in order to limit abortion rights. She also voted against a state law to protect patients and staff at reproductive health centers from harassment and intimidation.

As a school committee member, local activist, and mother of six, Heisey is deeply dedicated to expanding access to comprehensive sex education in public schools, investing in family planning services, and protecting access to safe, legal abortion. She will champion Planned Parenthood patients, the LGBTQ community, and all people who face unjust barriers to care.

“I am very proud to be endorsed by the Planned Parenthood Advocacy Fund,” said Heisey. “As a state representative, I will be a vocal proponent of accessible and affordable reproductive and sexual health care and will fight to protect the rights of Dracut and Tyngsborough residents. There is no room at the Massachusetts State House for opponents of reproductive freedom.”

The 36th Middlesex District covers Dracut and Tyngsborough. The primary election is September 4. The general election is November 6.
