State Senator Jamie Eldridge Endorses Barbara L’Italien For Congress

Jun 27, 2018 05:45AM ● By Theresa Gilman
ACTON, MA — Progressive leader State Senator Jamie Eldridge (D-Acton) has endorsed State Senator Barbara L’Italien in the race for Congress in the 3rd District with the announcement of a rally and joint day of action in Acton this past Saturday.
A movement and thought leader across Massachusetts, Eldridge has helped the Senate usher in some of the most progressive legislation ever, including the recently passed environmental bill and safe communities budget amendment that protects immigrants across the state. Eldridge is widely known for his championship on single-payer health care, getting big money out of politics, clean energy and environment, criminal justice reform, and immigrant rights, among other issues.
Eldridge announced his support for L’Italien with a passionate and detailed statement about why his colleague is the best progressive choice for the district:
“I’m proud to endorse Barbara L’Italien for Congress in the 3rd Congressional District. I have known and worked for Barbara for 16 years, and have seen up close her values, her fighting spirit and her commitment to helping those who are living in the shadows of life. Barbara has the strongest progressive track record in this race. I’ve seen her take on the tough fights in the legislature, from marriage equality to healthcare to supporting immigrants to LGBTQ rights to protecting services for the elderly and disabled, and she does not flinch,” said Eldridge in an excerpt of his statement. Eldridge represents Acton, Ayer, Boxborough, Harvard, Hudson, Littleton, Marlborough, Maynard, Shirley, Stow and Sudbury in the 3rd Congressional District. He ran for Congress in this district in 2007 in the open special election and still retains a wide base of support throughout.

“Jamie represents the moral spirit of the progressive party and has helped lead the way his entire career. We have fought side by side on single-payer health care, special education, and so many other issues. Jamie walks the walk, and I’m honored to call him a friend and close colleague. His endorsement means a lot, and I am proud to have earned it. I look forward to partnership between our two campaigns and once elected, to work together as strong progressives for this area making tangible change on our shared vision,” said L’Italien on receiving Eldridge’s endorsement.
