State Rep. Colleen Garry accepts an award from the Molly Bish Foundation in a State House Ceremony on May 30. Over her shoulder is Dr. Heather Bish, Molly Bish's sister.
Garry was one of public officials honored in a ceremony on May 30 at the State House. Also honored was Hampden District Attorney Anthony Gulluni. the ceremony coincided with the 18th Missing Children's Day in Massachusetts. For the past 11 years, the event has been organized by the Molly Bish Foundation.
The foundation is named for the 16-year-old Warren resident, who was working as a lifeguard when she was kidnapped and murdered in 2000. Her remains were found three years later but no arrest has ever been made in the case.
Garry, who was presented with her award by Magi Bish, mother of the slain teen, said she was "humbled and honored" to be recognized for her work.
"The Bish family amazes me with their courage and dedication to protecting children after the tragic kidnapping and murder of their beloved Molly," said Garry, in a Facebook posting. "Her Mom, Maggie, presented the award to me after being introduced by her sister, Dr. Heather Bish. Truly an award that I will treasure the rest of my life!"
