ANDOVER, MA — The United Auto Workers, a union 408,000 members strong with 15,000 in Massachusetts, has announced their support for State Senator Barbara L’Italien for Congress in Massachusetts’ 3rd District.

The UAW is the second national union to endorse in the race, joining the National Education Association who also recently came out in support of Senator L’Italien.

“Barbara L’Italien has a track record we trust. She has delivered for working families, breaking through the roadblocks to achieve real progress,” said UAW Region 9A Director Beverley Brakeman. “Billionaires and big business are calling the shots in the Trump administration, and Barbara has the legislative skill it will take to stop them. We respect all she’s done for economic justice in Massachusetts, and we’re eager to see what she will accomplish for workers in Washington.”

L’Italien is establishing herself as the labor union candidate in the Third District. A former union member herself, she has a huge lead with the most labor support in the race, with nurses, police, firefighters and service workers hitting the trail for her.

“I know what it’s like to struggle to make ends meet and to work your way through school, and it’s motivated me to be a champion for a level economic playing field in the legislature,” said L’Italien. “I’m proud to have the support 0f a union that has fought and won so many battles to create a fair economy. I’m going to make it my mission in Congress to get folks in our district good jobs for decent wages and benefits, and I’m glad I’ll be standing with the UAW to win those fights.”
