Lawrence, MAVowing to fight back against the Trump Administration’s assault on immigrant families, Juana Matias, Lawrence State Representative and candidate for Congress, released a bold platform today calling for comprehensive, compassionate immigration reform.

“Broken policies continue to strike fear into the heart of our communities but do little to make our country safer. At the State House, I’ve led on reforms like the Safe Communities Act to protect our immigrant neighbors, help law enforcement protect our communities, and fight back against Donald Trump and Jeff Sessions’ racist policies. In Congress I will advocate for thoughtful, comprehensive solutions including a solution for our Dreamers and our TPS holders, who are integral members of the American family.”

“My family came to the U.S. seeking a better life when I was 5. I know what it’s like to leave behind everything you know for a shot at the American Dream. I have defended unaccompanied children from deportation. My office receives dozens of calls a day from families struggling with a broken immigration system. These issues are not theoretical to me.

“Immigration has always been central to America’s influence around the globe. We are a nation built by immigrants, driven by a vision of creating a better life for the next generation, and united around a common set of values rather than the color of our skin, the nationality of our ancestors, or the wealth of our families.”
