Dracut Voters To Tackle 47 Articles On Town Meeting Warrant

Jun 04, 2018 03:34AM ● By Bill Gilman

A new fire station, bylaws relating to the recreational sale of marijuana and affordable housing are just a few of issues residents will debate and vote on, when they gather at Dracut High School tonight for Day 1 of the Annual Town Meeting.
A total of 47 articles appear on the warrant for the meeting, which is scheduled to be called to order at 7:30 p.m.
Among the articles expected to garner the most attention are articles 19 through 21, which ask votes to approve the location of a new Collinsville Fire Station at 569 Nashua Road, approve the purchase of the land and the construction of the station itself.
The issue of recreational marijuana sales will be front and center with articles 32 through 35 amending the town's bylaws to address the establishment and licensing of such businesses, as well as putting a 3 percent surtax on all legal marijuana sales.
Affordable housing, a hot button issue for several years, is back on the front burner with Article 30, which asks that Community Preservation funds be used to convert the old Dracut Centre School/Town Hall Annex building at 11 Spring Park Avenue into eight affordable housing units.
