FITCHBURG, MA — Last week the Fitchburg Firefighters Local 3128 announced their endorsement for State Senator Barbara L’Italien in the 3rd Congressional District race.
Local 3128 represents 86 members at the Fitchburg Fire Department and is the fourth firefighters union to endorse L'Italien’s candidacy for Congress. They join firefighters unions in Lawrence, Andover, and Dracut.
“We believe Barbara’s experience as a leader in the Senate advocating for firefighters and union rights will be an asset in Washington. It has been our experience that she has the knowledge of the issues, the willingness to listen, and the courage to fight for her convictions,” said Vice-President Patrick Haverty. “She has shown a commitment to standing by firefighters in her district and across the state. We know that is the same commitment she will bring to Congress.”
Fitchburg firefighters will be hitting the campaign trail for Barbara L’Italien right away, helping spread the word about her at tonight’s Lowell Sun/Fitchburg Sentinel & Enterprise debate at Fitchburg State University.
L’Italien has the most labor support in the race, with the endorsement of unions representing more than 48,000 members.
“I've proudly been a union member myself, and I’ll always stand up for working families and the labor movement. It means so much to me to have the labor community rallying behind my campaign,” said L’Italien. “I’ve fought for a level playing field for all workers throughout my time in the legislature, and I am committed to working with the Fitchburg Firefighters Local and labor unions from across the district to continue these battles in Congress.”
