Lawrence, MA - The Congressional Black Caucus PAC endorsed State Rep. Juana Matias for Congress in Massachusetts’ 3rd District, calling her the best champion for working people in the race.

“Juana’s story is the embodiment of the American Dream and the Congressional Black Caucus PAC is thrilled to endorse her.” said Congressman Meeks. “Juana has dedicated her life to standing up for working and middle-class families, and she will be an incredible advocate in Congress. Juana will bring a diversity of perspective that Washington is sorely lacking, and she will be a powerful voice for those who are struggling to get by in America. We’re especially impressed by her strong record of accomplishment in the State House, where she’s a
leader in taking on Trump and Jeff Sessions’ hateful agenda toward our communities of color and has successfully brought together a statewide coalition of progressives, immigrant rights advocates, and law enforcement behind the Safe Communities Act. It’s clear she has what it takes to be an outstanding Congresswoman.”

“I am so grateful to have the support of the Congressional Black Caucus,” Rep. Matias said. “Our campaign has always been about ensuring every American has access to the opportunities that make this country great, and the members of the CBC are shining lights in the fight for working people and equal opportunity. Too many people in the district have lacked a seat at the table for too long, and we’re fighting to make sure everyone is well represented in Congress.  ”

Rep. Matias has dedicated her career to serving the communities of the Third District. As a social worker, she served children and families in Haverhill, Lawrence, and Lowell. As an attorney with AmeriCorps, she advocated for undocumented children in deportation proceedings. As the State Representative for the 16th Essex District, which encompasses Lawrence, Rep. Matias has been an ardent supporter of measures to keep our communities safe, improve our public schools, and create good, 21st century jobs. Juana is the embodiment of the American dream. Her family came to the Merrimack Valley when she was five years old, and her father worked in Lawrence for 20 years as a machine operator at PolarTec to provide a better life for Juana and her three brothers. If elected, Juana would be New England’s first Latina member of Congress.
