Lawrence, MA - IBEW Local 104, citing State Rep. Juana Matias’s commitment to working-class families, announced their endorsement of her campaign for Congress in in Massachusetts’ 3rd Congressional District.
“Juana knows firsthand what it’s like to struggle to make ends meet. In Washington, she’ll stand up against attacks on labor and the middle class, and she’ll bring an agenda that puts us first” said Business Agent Brian Murphy. IBEW Local 104 represents over 1,200 members.
“The men and women of Local 104 power our district, and I am thrilled to accept this endorsement,” said Rep. Matias. “Right now we have a president and congress who are only concerned with giving tax cuts to themselves and their billionaire friends, and doing everything they can to roll back protections for union members. Organized labor built the strongest middle class in history, and by growing our unions we can grow economic opportunity for everybody.”
Rep. Matias has dedicated her career to serving the communities of the Third District. As a social worker, she served children and families in Haverhill, Lawrence, and Lowell. As an attorney with AmeriCorps, she advocated for undocumented children in deportation proceedings. As the State Representative for the 16th Essex District, which encompasses Lawrence, Rep. Matias has been an ardent supporter of measures to keep our communities safe, improve our public schools, and create good, 21stcentury jobs. Juana is the embodiment of the American dream. Her family came to the Merrimack Valley when she was five years old, and her father worked in Lawrence for 20 years as a machine operator at PolarTec to provide a better life for Juana and her three brothers. If elected, Juana would be New England’s first Latina member of Congress.
