ANDOVER, MA — State senator and congressional candidate Barbara L’Italien announced this morning that her campaign has officially secured her spot on the ballot in the race to succeed Congresswoman Niki Tsongas.
L'Italien and her team collected the necessary 2,000 nomination signatures from eligible voters, and turned them in this morning to the Secretary of the Commonwealth. L’Italien is the first woman in the race to announce her official spot.
“I am so grateful to the hundreds of supporters who volunteered their time to help collect thousands of signatures from every single community in this district,” said L’Italien. “I am proud to be on the ballot, running in a district with a strong tradition of electing women and valuing women’s leadership.”
Massachusetts has had only five congresswomen. Two of them have served this area, including Niki Tsongas and the state’s first-ever congresswoman Edith Nourse Rogers.
L’Italien is a Democrat currently representing her hometown of Andover, Dracut, Lawrence, and Tewksbury in the state Senate.
