ASHBURNHAM, MA — Last week, State Senator Anne Gobi and former State Senator Stephen Brewer announced their support for Senator Barbara L’Italien in her race for Congress. Gobi, and Brewer before her, represents the Worcester, Hampden, Hampshire and Middlesex District in the Senate, which overlaps with the 3rd Congressional District in Ashburnham, Ashby, and Winchendon.
“I’m supporting Barbara because we need a Congresswoman who not only can get big things done, but also cares about every single community, including our small rural towns,” said State Senator Anne Gobi. “I’ve served with Barbara since we were both state representatives. I first developed a deep appreciation for her ability to pass large important policies when she changed the city ourse in Massachusetts in terms of how we help people with autism. Since then my respect has only grown. She’s represented small rural towns, and truly cares to listen to their needs and help solve problems.”
"I served with Barbara in the Senate on several conference committees. I found her to be focused, bright, passionate, and compassionate," said former State Senator Stephen Brewer.
“Anne and Stephen have admirable records of deep commitment and public service to the small towns they have represented. They are invested in what is best for those communities, so it’s an honor to receive their support. I don’t take it lightly. As Congresswoman, I’m going to be a voice and a champion for every single community in this congressional district, large and small, urban and rural, just as I have in the state legislature,” said State Senator Barbara L’Italien.
L’Italien is a Democrat currently representing her hometown of Andover, Dracut, Lawrence, and Tewksbury in the state Senate. She is running for the seat held by Congresswoman Niki Tsongas, who is retiring at the end of the year.
