MARLBOROUGH, MA — On Thursday State Representative Carmine Gentile announced his support for State Senator Barbara L’Italien in her race for Congress. Gentile represents Sudbury and parts of Marlborough in the 3rd Congressional District, where L’Italien is running for Niki Tsongas’ open seat.
“Barbara has worked tirelessly to improve the lives of every resident in our Commonwealth. She has been a champion for persons with disabilities, effectively advocating for better education, health care, and jobs that pay a living wage. Her constituents know her commitment to them and I am confident that her legislative experience will enable her to hit the ground running,” said State Representative Carmine Gentile. “Barbara is a progressive Democrat who will help turn the tide in Washington and restore the House to a chamber whose members serve working families, the disadvantaged, our young and old, and not the privileged few.”
“To receive support from someone like Carmine, a true progressive who has long been a statewide leader on campaign finance reform and issues affecting working families, is a real honor,” said State Senator Barbara L’Italien. “This race is flooded with out-of-state money from Wall Street, the charter school industry, and Boston developers. I will work in Congress, just as I have with Carmine in the state legislature, so that money doesn’t have an influence in elections - people do.”
Gentile is L'Italien’s fifth endorsement just this week, after the Dracut Firefighters Union, State Senator Anne Gobi, former State Senator Stephen Brewer, and former State Representative Bob Rice. Her campaign continues to build momentum.
Other endorsements for L’Italien includes Mass-Care (the state’s leading single-payer advocacy group), and the following labor unions:
  • The Massachusetts Coalition of Police (representing the local police in 216 communities including Marlborough and Sudbury)
  • The Massachusetts Nurses Association
  • IBEW Local 1505, IBEW Local 2222
  • IBEW Local 2321
  • IBEW Local 2325
  • UFCW Local 1445
  • OPEIU Local 453 (MBTA management union)
  • Lawrence Firefighters Local 146
  • Andover Firefighters Local 1658
  • Dracut Firefighters Local Local 2586
  • Many other state and local elected officials in the district.
L’Italien is a Democrat currently representing her hometown of Andover, Dracut, Lawrence, and Tewksbury in the state Senate.
