GARDNER, MA — Last week former State Representative Bob Rice announced his support for State Senator Barbara L’Italien in her race for congress. Rice formerly represented Ashburnham, Gardner, Winchendon, and Westminster, all of which are in the 3rd Congressional District.
“This part of the state will be forever grateful to Barbara for her instrumental leadership in defeating the Kinder Morgan Pipeline,” said former State Representative Bob Rice. “I’m supporting her because she will be the one to stick up for us. When Barbara and I served together in the House, I watched her fight hard for her constituents. She’s represented manufacturing cities much like Gardner - she understands their unique needs and how to advocate for them. Ashburnham, Gardner, Winchendon, and Westminster will be well-served with Barbara as our champion in Congress.”
Rice’s support for L’Italien comes on the heels of endorsements by State Senator Anne Gobi and State Senator Stephen Brewer, made public yesterday. Gobi, and Brewer before her, represents Ashburnham, Ashby, and Winchendon in the 3rd Congressional District.
“Too often, small communities can feel overlooked. Bob fought hard as a state representative for resources and recognition for his district, and I’m proud to receive his endorsement,” said State Senator Barbara L’Italien. “As your Congresswoman I will be there for you. I will listen to the unique needs of each community and be your voice in Washington.”
L’Italien is a Democrat currently representing her hometown of Andover, Dracut, Lawrence, and Tewksbury in the state Senate. She is running for the seat held by Congresswoman Niki Tsongas, who is retiring at the end of the year.
Other support for L’Italien includes the following labor unions: the Massachusetts Coalition of Police (representing the local police in Gardner and Westminster), the Massachusetts Nurses Association, IBEW Local 1505, IBEW Local 2222, IBEW Local 2321, IBEW Local 2325, UFCW Local 1445, OPEIU Local 453 (the MBTA management union), Lawrence Firefighters Local 146, Andover Firefighters Local 1658, Dracut Firefighters Local Local 2586; as well as Mass-Care and many other state and local elected officials in the district.
