DRACUT, MA — On Friday the Dracut Firefighters Local 2586 announced their endorsement of State Senator Barbara L’Italien in her race for Congress.
"The Dracut Firefighters are proud to endorse Barbara because she has gone above and beyond to look out for us and our families,” said Dracut Firefighters Local 2586 President Leo McMahon. “Whether it comes to initiatives for better working conditions or to lift up the working class, our members know Barbara has our back. We know firsthand what a fighter she is. Barbara is exactly the type of person we need representing us next in Congress."
“I’m honored to receive this endorsement,” said State Senator Barbara L’Italien. “From protecting the pensions of employees who give their life’s work to our municipalities, to working to get bonding for a much-needed new fire station in Dracut this year, I’m proud of the tangible accomplishments I’ve made in the state legislature for first responders in Dracut and the entire Commonwealth. At a time when the Federal government is trying to roll back the protections and programs that support working people and their families, I’m prepared to use my experience to take on that fight in Congress.”
Local 2586 joins firefighters unions in Andover and Lawrence in supporting L’Italien. L’Italien has also been endorsed by the Massachusetts Coalition of Police, the Massachusetts Nurses Association, IBEW Local 1505, IBEW Local 2222, IBEW Local 2321, IBEW Local 2325, UFCW Local 1445, OPEIU Local 453 (the MBTA management union), as well as Mass-Care and many local elected officials in the 3rd Congressional District.
L’Italien also represents Lawrence, Andover, and Tewksbury in the State Senate. She is running for the seat currently held by Congresswoman Niki Tsongas, who is retiring at the end of the year.
