(Editor's Note: the following information was provided by the office of Dan Koh for Congress.)ANDOVER, MA – Local 1705 of the American Federation of State County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) today endorsed Dan Koh in the 3rd District congressional race. Local 1705 represents over 230 employees in the City of Lowell and is the eleventh union to endorse Koh so far.
“There are a number of great candidates in this race, but we believe there are more than a few key things that set Dan apart from the rest of the pack,” said Local 1705 President Corey Robinson.
Robinson, a lifelong resident of Lowell and 13-year employee of the city’s public works department, touted Koh’s strong belief in collective bargaining rights, his comprehensive plan to invest in public infrastructure, his support for workforce training programs on renewable energy projects and line-of-duty death benefits for public service workers, and his track record as Chief of Staff to Mayor Marty Walsh in ensuring that public sector employees receive fair treatment. He also praised Koh’s accessibility and commitment to listening to the needs of working families.
“One of the things I like about Dan is his ability to listen more than talk,” Robinson said. “He doesn’t throw out prepared statements and try to tell me what he thinks my members would want to hear. He was far more interested in listening. We know that Dan will answer the call when working families of the Third District need a champion in Washington and that is why we are proud to endorse him.”
“I am truly honored to have the support of AFSCME Local 1705,” said Koh. “AFSCME members are the backbone of public services in our communities. In the City of Lowell, the members of this Local serve as snowplow drivers, clerical workers, public health nurses, and a number of other critical positions. They work quietly behind the scenes, with little or no fanfare, and with little recognition for the important contributions they make every day on the job. Having the backing of these hard-working men and women really means a lot to me personally and to my campaign.”
