ANDOVER, MA — Four International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers local unions today announced unified support for State Senator Barbara L’Italien (D-Andover) in her bid for Congress. IBEW Locals 1505, 2222, 2321, and 2325, together representing roughly 5,000 members, endorsed L’Italien.
L’Italien leads the Congressional field with the most support from unions in terms of total number of members represented. She is also the only candidate in the race with the endorsement of a statewide union.
“What makes Barbara stand out as the best choice for 1505 workers and our families is her experience. Barbara has been fighting for us for over a decade, and that experience supporting workers is what will make her an outstanding Congresswoman and the right choice for the labor community,” said Local 1505 Vice President David Middlemiss.
"2222 is proud to join our brothers in nearby locals in supporting Barbara,” said Local 2222 Labor Coordinator Brendan Keogh. “Our members know that we need people down in Washington fighting at the federal level for workers and our families. Barbara's outstanding track record and experience make her the best candidate for this job."
“As our Andover neighbor, Barbara has represented and worked with many of our members for years. She’s been our friend and advocate, and so our membership was eager to support her in her race for Congress,” said Local 2321 Business Manager Craig Fields. “She has made a real difference in the lives of our hundreds of members and their families.”
“IBEW Local 2325 is proud to endorse Barbara. She has gone above and beyond many times in her career, taking tough stances and sticking her neck out for the sake of IBEW brothers, sisters and their families,” said Local 2335 Business Manager and Financial Secretary Dave Keating. “We know she has our back, which is why we are working hard to make sure she’s the next Congresswoman.”
“I’m proud to receive these endorsements from the electrical workers I have fought hard for,” said Barbara L’Italien. “They work hard for our communities - for example, look at how many households lost power in these recent storms - and deserve our support. I will never stop sticking up for unions, workers, and their families, and I look forward to what we can accomplish together in Congress.”
These IBEW local unions are the latest labor groups to endorse L’Italien; they join the Massachusetts Nurses Union, the Massachusetts Coalition of Police, OPEIU Local 453, UFCW 1445, and the Andover and Lawrence firefighters’ unions.
