George Thomas, 78
George was born in Athens, Greece on January 28, 1940 a son of the late Nicholas and Cleanthe (Voyiages) Thomas.
Born in Greece, George came to the United States at the age of fourteen. Settling in Lowell with his family, he attended Lowell schools. He served his country in the Army and was stationed in Germany.
Upon his return, he married his wife, Demetra in 1964 and they have enjoyed fifty-three years of happiness. He worked at Raytheon Company as a millwright, helping to set up and maintain the equipment for over thirty years.
He played soccer for many years, in the Over the Hill soccer league traveling throughout the state with his team.
George was a member of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Lowell.
He is survived by his loving wife Demetra (Karanicola) Thomas, his daughter, Eleftheria “Elly” Thomas, a brother, Michael Thomas and his wife Marie; a sister, Nancy Newell; and his sister in law, Panagiota Miras and her husband Demetrios, he also leaves many nieces and nephews.
ARRANGEMENTS - Relatives and friends will be received at the M. R. LAURIN & SON FUNERAL HOME, 295 Pawtucket St. Lowell on Sunday, February 25th from 4pm to 7pm. His funeral will take place on Monday, February 26th at 9:00am at the Funeral Home to be followed by a service at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Lowell at 10:00am. Interment will follow in Westlawn II Cemetery. IN LIEU OF FLOWERS, memorial donations may be made in his memory to the Holy Trinity Church, 62 Lewis St, Lowell, Ma. Funeral arrangements under the direction of directors, Louis M. Fazio III, M.Richard Laurin, and Scott Laurin.
