Quantum Exposed: Wisdom of the Peaceful Warrior; 2

Feb 19, 2018 08:41AM ● By Corey Starliper
I never suspected that I would have to learn how to live--that there were specific disciplines and ways of seeing the world I had to master before I could awaken to a simple, happy, uncomplicated life.

(
Millman, p. 6, Wisdom of the Peaceful Warrior)

The way of the peaceful warrior is a pleasant mix of eastern and western thought, dipped in practicality and sprinkled with humor. Before I was introduced to "The Book That Changes Lives," I believed as many people do, that a house and a car and 2.5 kids and plenty of money would deliver me to a stress-free, fun-filled, cookie-cutter life.

Had I attained it, I would have discovered that I had fallen under the illusion that many people do before being plucked from Never Land.

Life is not something that arrives at our doorstep in a pretty package. Rather, life is a garden that calls to be tended. Life is the effort that we put into a dream, the satisfaction that we feel in doing it, and the soft sense of disappointment that we feel after reaching a long awaited destination to realize that the moment won't last forever.

There is a solution.

The disciplines that Millman proposes are not reserved for the cave-dwelling monk, or for the charming, charismatic orator who can sway the masses with the careful lean of certain syllables. They are available to all of us. Life is the perfect arena! Learning to observe and accept our thoughts and emotions, careful attention to the most focused causal link, and acting with kindness and courteousness whether we are particularly moved to or not are a few of the core practices that we can utilize on a regular basis.
