Atty. Barry Finegold, may be looking to reclaim his old job.
Finegold, a Democrat from Andover, recently told the Lowell Sun that he is "strongly considering" running for State Senate from the 2nd Essex-Middlesex District this fall.
The Second Essex-Middlesex District includes Tewksbury, Dracut, Andover and part of Lawrence.
Finegold held the seat from 2011-2015. He chose not to seek re-election in 2014, as he made an unsuccessful bid for State Treasurer.
The seat has been held by state Sen. Barbara L'Italien since 2015. However, she has announced she will not be seeking re-election, as she seeks the Democratic nomination to Congress from the 3rd Massachusetts District.
Prior to serving as state senator, Finegold served 14 years as a state representative.
To date, no one has officially declared a candidacy for the Second Essex-Middlesex seat. However, in addition to Finegold, there is also a Republican who appears ready to throw his hat in the ring.
Joe Espinola, of Dracut, a member of the Greater Lowell Tech School Committee, recently told the Lowell Sun that he is "collecting signatures" on nomination sheets for the position.
Espinola is a retired police officer for the Lowell Police Department.
In addition to his seat on the GLTSD School Committee, Espinola worked as a district director for the presidential campaign of Doanld Trump in 2016.
