Election 2018: Dracut Campaign Season Starts With a Bang

If the opening days of the nomination season are any indication, the 2018 Dracut Municipal Election promises to be lively.
Already, enough candidates have taken out nomination papers to make contested races for the Board of Selectmen and School Committee appear likely.
Dracut voters will go to the polls on Monday, May 7.
Incumbent Joe DiRocco Jr. is the only selectman up for re-election. He has already taken out nomination papers, as has potential challenger Philippe Thibault, a familiar face in Dracut politics.
For School Committee, incumbents Daniel O'Connell and Joseph Wilkie have both taken nomination papers to seek re-election. The first challenger to declare and take out papers is Susan Koufogazos.
Also taking out papers for re-election in the first few days was Housing Authority incumbent George Nangell and Dracut Water Supply District Commissioner William "Zee" Zielinski. No challengers have emerged thus far.
There are two seats up for grabs for the Parker Library Board of Trustees. To date, the only potential candidate to take out papers is challenger Gretchen Mayall.
No candidates have taken out papers for Town Moderator.
