by the Mass RMV.)
Massachusetts Veterans, did you know that the RMV offers Veterans license, ID, and special plate services?
Eligible Veterans can get a “Veteran’s Indicator” status on their duplicate license/ID cards at no cost. The “Veteran’s Indicator” is a physical symbol that appears on the credential and can be used to obtain identified services for veterans. Eligible veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces who were honorably discharged can choose to have the word “Veteran” printed on their driver’s license/ID card. If a veteran’s license/ID card is not eligible for renewal, the individual can obtain a duplicate license/ID card for no fee with the “Veteran’s Indicator.”
Customers can apply for a Veterans indicator in person at an RMV Service Center or at a designated AAA location. Veterans will need to present a completed application and a certificate of honorable discharge.
The RMV would also like to remind customers of the 21 different vehicle and motorcycle plates for veterans and eligible family members, including;
- Purple Heart
- Bronze Star
- Disabled Veteran
- Gold Star Family
- National Guard
- Distinguished Flying Cross
- Silver Star
- Pearl Harbor Survivor
- Legion of Valor
- Congressional Medal of Honor
Veteran passenger and motorcycle plates may have different registration processes and fees.
