BOSTON – State Senator Barbara L’Italien (D-Andover) today announced the winners of her first annual Christmas Card Contest.  L’Italien selected one winner from each of the communities she represents, as well as several honorable mentions. The theme of the contest was “My Favorite Holiday Tradition” and received hundreds of entries from schools all across L’Italien’s district.

The four winners are:

  • Avanthika Suryadevar, Ms. McDonald’s 7th Grade Class, West Middle School, Andover
  • Erick Heisey, Mrs. Frazier’s 7th Grade Class, Richardson Middle School, Dracut
  • Darlanny Contreras, Mr. Hills’ 5th Grade Class, Francis M. Leahy School, Lawrence
  • Ryan Testa, Ms. Fagan’s 4th Grade Class, Louise Davy Trahan Elementary, Tewksbury

“This contest really got my staff, family and me into the holiday spirit.  I am proud and amazed by the creativity and talent displayed by our students.  All the credit in the world goes to the students and their teachers for putting their time and energy into such delightful submissions,” said L’Italien.

The Holiday Card Contest was held for students in Grades 3 through 8 in the Second Essex and Middlesex District.  The winners of the contest are featured on the front of Senator L’Italien’s holiday cards, and honorable mentions are depicted on the back.  Notices announcing the contest were sent out in September to the Superintendents and Principals of the Andover, Dracut, Lawrence, and Tewksbury Public School Districts.

“I would like to extend my deepest appreciation to each and every student who submitted a card for the 2017 contest,” said L’Italien. “On behalf of my family and staff, please accept my most sincere wishes for a happy, safe holiday season!”
