A popular Dracut variety store and lottery outlet will be closed indefinitely, after a driver slammed her car into the store, doing significant damage.
Dracut Center Convenience Store, 1388 Bridge St., was the scene of the bizarre accident, which took place Friday, at around 8:45 p.m.
No one was injured, but the damage to the store was extensive, including the front counter, Lottery tickets and system, cash register, food displays and the glass doors and windows at the entrance.
According to an article published by the Lowell Sun, the store is owned by 56-year-old Kamlesh Patel and is one of the busiest lottery outlets in the state.
Firefighters responding to the scene found a blue Ford Taurus inside the store. According to store surveillance video (see below), the car crashed into the building at a high rate of speed.
The only person in the store at the time of the crash was the clerk, Patel's nephew, and he was unharmed.
The driver of the vehicle, described only as a female, was also unhurt.
Rock Sobey of the Lowell Sun, reported on Twitter that Dracut Police Peter Bartlett says the driver was not impaired at the time of the crash. However, he said she was "not used to driving at night."
The driver will be summonsed to Lowell District Court and charged with driving to endanger and negligent driving.
