Dracut 'Good Samaritan' Helps Rescue Injured Hiker

A Dracut man is being hailed as a hero, for his role in rescuing an injured hiker over the weekend.

According to New Hampshire Fish and Game, Sandeep Mishra, 30, of Nashua fell and was injured, while hiking in the Purgatory Falls Recreation Area in Mont Vernon and Lyndeborough Saturday night about 8 p.m.

He was unable to move and had no hiking supplies and no cell phone with him, leaving him stranded.

Fortunately for Mishra, Gary Noel, of Dracut, was hiking in the same area, Sunday morning and came across the injured man at around 10 a.m. Noel used his cell phone to call for assistance and provide rescuers with his location.

Despite being exposed to the elements, Mishra was in fairly good condition. According to an NHFG official, this was due, in large part, to the unseasonably mild conditions. Still, had Noel not come along, the end result could have been much different.
