Eleanor A. Demos (Gomes)
Eleanor A. Demos (Gomes), age 84, of Wilmington, passed away peacefully on October 5, 2017, at the Lahey Clinic in Burlington, MA.
Eleanor was born on July 1, 1933; she was raised and educated in Cambridge, MA and was a graduate of Cambridge Latin High School where she met her “sweetheart” James Demos.
Eleanor attended Burdett Secretarial School in Boston and went on to earn an Associate’s Degree from Northeastern University.
Eleanor was a secretary for Harvard Business School and Tufts University for many years but her favorite occupation which she excelled at was a loving wife, mother and an excellent homemaker.
Eleanor married James Demos on August 10, 1958; they just celebrated their 59th Wedding Anniversary. Eleanor and James moved to Wilmington in 1961 where they raised three wonderful children, Jamie, Jay, and Jodi. Eleanor loved being a “mom”; she showered her children with unconditional love and support. Eleanor attended countless school and sporting events; she was always their biggest fan. As time went on and her children grew and married, Eleanor welcomed her “in-laws” with open arms; she always treated them as her own. When Eleanor became a “Grand Mom” to Bobby, Evan, Emma, and Abby, her life became more enriched with each grandchild. Eleanor was always so proud of her family and it was evident in everything she did.
Eleanor loved spending time with her family; whether it was camping, trips to York Beach in Maine, going to Bingo or taking her Sunday rides to scout out some favorite restaurants; she enjoyed every moment they were together. Eleanor also looked forward to the many trips she took with her husband, family, and friends; everyone always had a great time.
Eleanor had a passion for helping children, she spent many years volunteering in the Wilmington Public Schools and various School Libraries. She also spent time volunteering at the Hellenic Academy in Lowell; she was always willing to lend a hand.
Eleanor will be fondly remembered for her love of singing and her beautiful voice; she had great smile and a contagious laugh that always got everyone laughing around her. Eleanor was kind, caring, and giving of herself to anyone and everyone in need. She was a beautiful person inside and out and she will forever be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Eleanor was the beloved wife of James A. Demos, devoted mother of Jamie Brennan & husband Bob of Wilmington, Jay Demos & wife Shannon of Tewksbury and Jodi Rezendes of Dracut. Loving “Grand Mom” of Bobby & Evan Brennan and Emma & Abby Demos. Cherished daughter of the late Americo “Lawrence” and Emma (Nives) Gomes, dear sister of the late Lawrence Gomes and Mary Tiernan. Eleanor is also survived by her nieces, nephews, and friends.
Family and friends will gather at the Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington, on Tuesday, October 10th at 9:00 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Dorothy’s Church, Main St. (Rte. 38), Wilmington, at 10:00 a.m. Interment will take place in Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington.
