Whether you were born and raised, or if you've recently moved here, there was something about Dracut that made you feel like setting your roots down in this community.
Now that you're here, how do you envision the future? What are some things you'd like to see the community embrace or let go of? What are some changes you think would strengthen the future of our town for generations to come?
On Thursday, Oct. 5, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Harmony Hall (located at 1660 Lakeview Ave.), the Master Plan Committee is hosting a 'Visioning Session' and they are asking the citizens for their help. Phil Thibault, chairman of the Master Plan Committee, attended the Sept. 26 Board of Selectman Meeting and stated to the board that this 'Visioning Session' is "really a session where we only want the public to talk."
Thibault said the idea of the session is "gathering ideas on how the citizens of the town believe the town should develop."
"The Master Plan is not only a government document. It is a plan for quality of life in Dracut. The reasons people move here, the reasons we stay here, the reasons we want to raise our families here," said Thibault.
Because of this, it is important that the committee hears from all of Dracut's citizens. Hearing from a large selection of our community members is very important, since each age group can add valuable information. "Our senior population can give us insight on how things were in Dracut, our mature adult community that can tell you how things are right now, but we have our students who can tell us how they want things to be in the future, so I really encourage everybody to come and give their voice," said Thibault.
Thibault also attended the Sept. 25 School Committee Meeting to let the board know how important it is to hear from our students.
"We have students in our school system that will be here in twenty years and we should be listening to them," he said.
Hearing how Dracut students envision their future can help ensure that these bright minds remain in the community and strengthen it for generations to come.
Town officials are encouraging all residents to attend this important meeting and let your voice be heard. Your comments, suggestions and ideas will help shape the future of the town and its residents, and preserve the town's greatness.
