This philosophy has Buddhist roots, in that one of the fundamental aspects of Buddhism is the understanding that nothing is permanent. Attachment and expectation are responsible for suffering. We only lose what we cling to. We cannot mourn something we had no stake in.

All things change. Consciousness is in a constant state of shapeshifting. Every moment that we experience is entirely different from the last.

This is a concept that makes people very uncomfortable. Humans and animals pass away, new humans and animals are born and replace their parents in the natural cycle. Our resistance to this very basic Law of the Universe calls forth within us a sense of urgency.

It also alerts our souls to an infinite supply of spiritual potential. Each and every moment that passes is another moment to which we can apply absolutely any emotion that we wish. It is a sparkling oasis in our otherwise barren desert of futility.

We cannot control the rain, but we can control our response to it!
