A helicopter drops more than 600 golf balls on the 18th green of The Pines Course at The International golf club in Bolton to determine the winner of the 50/50 raffle at the 22nd Annual Lowell General Hospital Golf Challenge on Monday, Aug. 21. The owner of the ball that landed closest to the pin (which this year went in the hole!), was the winner of $4,600.

Bolton, Mass. – Under a bright sky dimmed only by the solar eclipse on Monday, Aug. 21, at The International golf club in Bolton, a sold-out group of 252 golfers enjoyed a day of fun, food and prizes, while raising $450,000 for Lowell General Hospital’s next major capital project.
The donations from golfers and sponsors will support a first floor renovation at the hospital’s Saints Campus, which will include an updated and expanded Emergency Department. The new ED will include a 36-plus bed unit, including eight pods in a separate area for behavioral health patients.
“This year marks the fifth anniversary of our merger with Saints Medical Center, and this renovation reflects our long-term commitment to the Saints campus to meet the needs of our community,” said Jody White, President and CEO of Circle Health and Lowell General Hospital. “We operate the second-busiest Emergency Department in the state, so we are excited about the impact this renovation will have for our patients and their families.”
For the second straight year, additional fundraising support came via helicopter. The Helicopter Ball Drop is a 50/50 raffle in which each entry is assigned a golf ball. The more than 600 golf balls sold were taken up in a helicopter, which swooped in and dropped them on the 18th hole. The winner is the owner of the ball closest to the hole. This year, one ball rolled into the cup, netting the winner $4,600.
The golfers were treated to breakfast before heading out on The International’s Pines and Oaks courses, where they were served an on-course lunch. Golf was followed by a dinner, a live auction and other prizes. Each golfer was also given a set of eclipse glasses to witness Monday’s historic event. Tournament Sponsors were Enterprise Bank and Cerner.
