Obituary: Garfield L. Sewell, 97

DRACUT, MA- Garfield L. Sewell, 97, a 95 year resident of Dracut, died peacefully, Monday, July 10th, at Palm Manor Nursing Home in Chelmsford. He was predeceased by his wife of 69 years Priscilla "Bunny" (Lowe) Sewell. 

Garfield was born in Lowell, MA on July 7, 1920, a son of the late Emma J. (Kenworthy) and Lisle E. Sewell. He was educated in Dracut and a graduate of Dracut High School.
A veteran of WWII, Garfield served his country proudly as part of the Army Airforce. While assigned to the 392nd Bomb Group of the 8th Air Force he was awarded the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal, the Victory Medal, and Victory Medal American Theatre Ribbon. He was honorably discharged as a Sergeant Technician from the 211th Army Air Force Base Unit.

Garfield was an auto mechanic for many years before working at the Lowell Gas Company. He retired and enjoyed every opportunity to see his grandchildren participate in all of their sporting events. He traveled near and far to support his grandchildren whom he loved dearly. He was a member of Christ Church United in Dracut Center and also enjoyed playing golf everyday until he was 86 years old.

He is survived and will be deeply missed by his two children, Wayne Sewell of Sparks, Nevada and Cheryl Pichette and her husband Michael of Murrells Inlet, South Carolina; three grandchildren, Dustin Sewell and his wife Theresa of Mill Creek, Washington, Robbie Bouchard and his wife Caroline of Charlotte, North Carolina and Jennifer Bouchard of Nashua, New Hampshire; a very dear cousin Faustina Wood. 

ARRANGEMENTS: At Garfield’s request there will be no calling hours. A private service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make donations in Garfield’s name to Christ Church United 10 Arlington Street Dracut, MA 01826 or to a Veterans Charity of their choice.
