Dennis R. "Poncho" Matte
SALISBURY - Dennis R. "Poncho" Matte, age 66, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, July 6. He was the beloved husband of Carole A. (Macaluso) Matte.
He was born in Lowell on August 20, 1950, a son of the late George and Yvonne (Bellemare) Matte. Poncho attended Ste. Jeanne d'Arc Grammar School and graduated from Lowell Trade School where he excelled in basketball and made the school's Hall of Fame. He was a resident of Salisbury where he resided for the past two years and was a former long time resident of Wilmington.
Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a truck driver for Rourke Eno in Woburn for many years.
Dennis enjoyed striper fishing, the beach and was an avid fan of the New England sports teams. He was also a great cook and grillmaster and loved to tell jokes, good and bad. Most of all, he loved his family and enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Brian Matte of Gainesville, VA and Nicole McGeady and her husband, James of Sudbury; his grandchildren, Jordan Soper-Matte and Ella and Kylie McGeady. His siblings, Donald of Lowell; Maurice, Helen Rondeau, Mildred Racette all of Dracut; Roland and his wife Susan and Rene and his wife Nadine, all of Florida; Doris Robert and her husband Paul of Hudson, NH; sisters in law Rose, Anne and Helen Matte. He was the brother of the late Roger, Georgette, Gerald and Paul Matte. Beloved son-in-law to Bob and Ruth Macaluso and Auntie Mal, he was the brother-in-law of Lynn, Sue, Bobby and John Macaluso and his wife Patsy, all of Reading; also many nieces and nephews.
ARRANGEMENTS - At his request, there will be no visiting hours. Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend a Prayer Service on Tuesday morning, July 11 at 11:30am at the Chapel of St. Joseph Cemetery, 96 Riverneck Rd., Chelmsford. Interment to follow.
