A Few Thoughts on Happiness; Special Edition of this Column to be Released Next Week

For those of you who believe in God (if you take the Christian standpoint--Im Pagan myself but as I've said before, I'm not afraid to use the word God. Religion is merely a filter through which people relate themselves to the Universe at large), God is Love. As God made us in His image, the state of being alive is Love. This is a deductive argument for the fact that the Universe is inherently good. As brutal and merciless as life can be on the surface, running fresh through the veins of Existence is a beauty beyond anything we can comprehend as human beings.
We were in touch with the sweetest fruits of Existence as children. With this in mind, I've concluded that happiness is based upon two things.
The first thing is the dismissal of adult distractions, particularly money. Yes, money is important. Each and every one of us should have a constant "flow of monetary energy running through our lives," (Millman) but that is all that money really amounts to. You can change your car oil yourself, or you can pay someone $40 to do it for you. Many individuals spend hours upon hours each day worrying about financial fitness. In reality, how often do we really need to think about money?
The second thing is our ability to see the good things in our lives, our blessings, as it were. How quickly we reject moments that arrive crammed into the same ugly package as stress, waiting for something better to come along! Stress will always be a part of a life led by someone who constantly keeps an eye out for it. The moment we realize that a decision to be happy is the only thing that stands in the way of us making a beginning, we are also made aware of how far back from the finish that beginning sits.
Look for my special edition feature entitled The Last Rep at the end of next week. This particular feature will be much different than the posts many of you have come to expect, and probably a bit longer. You can expect two more posts in the interim, including the second installment to the House Rule series.
