On Tuesday, May 23rd, at the Massachusetts Library Association's (MLA) Annual Conference in Hyannis, Dracut Library Director, Nanci Milone Hill, was named Library Support Staff Advocate of the Year. The award, given by the Paralibrarian section of MLA, is given to a person who appreciates the value of paralibrarians in Massachusetts libraries and who has worked to increase their opportunities and visibility. The winner is a person who values the library and especially the work of the non-degree library staff, making sure they are noticed and rewarded for their dedication. Hill was nominated for the award three times, from three different MLA members.
The Parker Library was also recognized by the Public Relations Awards Committee in the category of Best Community Event,
for their town-wide discussion of Defending Jacob
by William Landay. The three-month long program encouraged all residents to read and discuss the book, and to attend a variety of programs around the themes in the book, including a panel discussion on Youth and Violence led by Hank Philippi Ryan; a workshop on Forensic Genealogy, a slide presentation on historic Massachusetts murders; a course on mystery writing; and a talk with two federal judges on murder in Massachusetts and federal courts. The Library also received the BEST IN SHOW
award for their Dracut Reads
Scholarship Winner: Library Assistant Amy Spence was the winner of the 2017 Ingram Content Award. As the recipient, she attended all three days of MLA's Annual Conference in Hyannis. Amy also received a one-year membership to MLA. Congratulations, Amy!
