Democrat for Governor Jay Gonzalez received an endorsement Wednesday from Barbara L’Italien, a State Senator representing Andover, Dracut, Lawrence and Tewksbury. One of the first state legislators to endorse in the gubernatorial, her endorsement comes only weeks after Gonzalez officially announced his candidacy for Governor.
“I’m an enthusiastic and early supporter of Jay because I believe in his progressive vision for Massachusetts,” said Senator L’Italien. “Whether it’s his bold proposal to create universal early education and child care for our children or his support of legislation to protect immigrant families from dangerous Trump administration policies, Jay has a proven track record in the public and private sector of working to give everyone a fair shot.”
Senator L’Italien first took office in 2003 as a State Representative for the Eighteenth Essex District before joining the Senate in January 2015. She has long been a champion in protecting Massachusetts’ most vulnerable citizens, especially those with disabilities and the elderly. L’Italien continues to be a leader in the Senate as Chairwoman of the Legislature’s Joint Committee on Consumer Protection & Professional Licensure, and Chairwoman of the Joint Committee on Elder Affairs.
“I am proud to receive Senator L’Italien’s endorsement,” said Jay Gonzalez. “Through her tireless advocacy for our most vulnerable neighbors, she has proven her relentless commitment to her community and Massachusetts. She exemplifies the values that our campaign represents.”
