Shirley (Taylor) Varanoske
Born in Lowell on February 27, 1935, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Monique (Lebrun) Taylor. Shirley was a 1952 graduate of Lowell High School, where she was a member of the Girl Officers Regiment. She then went on to earn her Bachelor's degree in Physical Education from Springfield College in 1958. Upon graduation, she taught 7th and 8th grade English and Physical Education at the Lincoln School in Melrose. Later, she became a substitute P.E. teacher in the Lowell and Dracut public schools. Shirley proudly owned and operated "Balloon Expressions", a balloon delivery and decorating business, and also entertained at many children's birthday parties as "Petunia the Clown."
Above all, family and friends were most important to Shirley. She met many lifelong friends as a member of the Wedeln Ski Club in North Conway, NH. Her most cherished time was spent surrounded by her husband, children, and grandson, whom she adored.
She is survived and will be deeply missed by her two children, Joseph C. "Buster" Varanoske of Chicago, IL, and Leila Varanoske of Dracut; a grandson, Christopher Conner of Liverpool, NY; and two siblings, Dorothy Bassick Scott of Stratford, CT, and Donald Taylor of Dracut.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her sister, Elsie Taylor Wilson, and her brother, James Taylor.
ARRANGEMENTS: Her funeral will be held from the funeral home on MONDAY at 8:30 a.m. with her Funeral Mass directly following at 9:30 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Church, Lowell. Burial will take place in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Lowell. In lieu of flowers, Shirley's wish is that you do good deeds, and practice random kindness and senseless acts of beauty.
