Sabrina Heisey, candidate for School Committee
(Editor's note: The following candidate statement was submitted by Sabrina Heisey, candidate for School Committee.)
Sabrina Heisey is running for the Dracut School Committee. She works at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston in Research Administration, primarily dealing with grants, budgets and contracts related to clinical research in Neurology. She is being recognized at Beth Israel as a 2017 Environmental Champion for her work in saving overhead costs related to energy consumption. She attended Boston Latin Academy for high school and Wentworth Institute of Technology for her bachelor’s degree in Computer Science as a first generation college graduate and an inner city low income housing cycle breaker. She moved to Dracut 10 years ago with her husband Zeb and has 3 children currently in the Dracut Public schools with 3 more to enter in the coming years. She is the current lead organizer for the Dracut Moms Group and an active Daisy Scout Troop Leader. Two of her children are adopted and she has been actively involved in the foster care adoption community, speaking at adoption recruiting events and at National Adoption Day in Massachusetts. She is also part of the Emerge MA program which teaches and encourages women to run for political office.
Sabrina Heisey should be elected to the Dracut School Committee because of her strong record on advocacy for children and her experience managing taxpayer dollars responsibly. The district is facing high fees, a very tight budget and stagnated test scores, and the voters are ready for a change. She is an innovative leader who knows how to spend money wisely both professionally and personally. She will fight for your children the same way she fights for her children. She understands that you only get one shot at your children’s education and that has to happen right now or families will continue to leave the Dracut Public Schools.
She has worked many years in helping scientists find new and innovative sources of funding for their work and can bring that to the school district. She knows that we can no longer rely on failed override attempts to sustain our teachers and supplies. Our schools need help now and Sabrina is the candidate who can bring that leadership to the committee. Her record of fiscal responsibility and accurate forecasting is a much needed asset while working on the annual school budget. Her professional experience in managing and evaluating staff will be a benefit to the team during superintendent evaluations. Her experience in negotiating contracts would be incomparable to Dracut Public Schools while working with the town on chargebacks and with vendors on services. Her spirit of collaboration to approach problem solving will be a positive force of good and her enthusiasm for the success of the children and families of Dracut is unmatched. Electing her to the School Committee will bring a level of renewed vitality, pioneering strategies, financial accountability and open transparency that the voters have been looking for in Dracut.
In the future, Sabrina Heisey would like to see a renewed faith in the town’s voters of the Dracut Public School System and new leadership is required to bring that. She is a champion of working families and advocate for all our children. She is a strong voice and independent thinker. She believes that the future of Dracut rests with the children of Dracut and their education is not just a requirement but a priority to all our residents
