Alice (Dys) McNamara
Born in Lowell, MA on January 8, 1925, Alice was a daughter to the late John and Josephine (Wal) Dys, both of Poland. She studied accounting at Dracut High School where she graduated in 1942. She did piece work at the Faulkner Mills (Billerica) and the Abbott Mills (Dracut).
After her marriage to Charles McNamara Sr., she moved to Lowell where she raised her children, took care of her home and kept the books for the family business, Ideas, Inc. of Lowell.
She volunteered at the Immaculate Conception school as a physical education teacher and helped in the library at the Reilly school.
She moved to Dracut after retiring. She volunteered with the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program of Dracut, where she visited the elderly. She enjoyed taking care of her grandson, gardening, traveling, reading and spending days lunching and running errands with her sister "Jo." She was also an active member of the Chelmsford Senior Citizens.
Alice is survived and will be dearly missed by her children, Kathleen McNamara of Dracut, Charles Jr. and his wife Laura of Lowell, John and his wife Kathryn of Hudson, NH, and Patrick of Dracut; grandson, Andrew of Boulder, Colorado. She is also survived by her sister Josephine Linton and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents, her brothers, Stanislaus, Francis, Frank, Peter and William; her sisters, Sophie Dys, Mary Shimanski, Helen Boksanski, and Janina Kozak.
ARRANGEMENTS: Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on FRIDAY, March 24, 2017 from 4 - 8 p.m. at the DRACUT FUNERAL HOME, 2159 Lakeview Ave, Dracut. Alice's funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 25th at 10 a.m. at the funeral home with burial to follow in St. Patrick Cemetery, Lowell. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Community Hospice House, 210 Naticook Rd, Merrimack, NH 03054, or the Alzheimer's Association, 480 Pleasant Street, Watertown, MA 02472.
