Obituary: Raymond Joseph Toupin, 72

DRACUT, MA- Raymond Joseph Toupin, 72, died peacefully on Saturday, March 4, 2017 surrounded by his loving family at Brigham & Women's Hospital in Boston. He was the beloved husband of Claire (Dion) Toupin of Dracut.

Born in Lowell on August 27, 1944, he was a son of the late Leo W. and Ella (Mullen) Toupin. He was a graduate of Sacred Heart School, and Lowell High School with the Class of 1962. Upon graduating high school, Raymond went on to proudly serve his country as a member of the United States Army. During the 1960's, he served with Special Forces "A" Teams in Vietnam. His unit, the Fifth Special Forces Group, was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation four times. Through the years he carried many friendships and memories of great soldiers he served with.

Raymond received two Bronze stars for Valor, Vietnam Cross for Gallantry with Silver Star, and several other decorations for the work he did in Vietnam. He was a lifetime member of the DAV Edith Nourse Rogers Chapter 25, as well as a member of the VFW Post 662 on Plain Street in Lowell. He was most proud of his "beret," jump wings, combat infantry badge, and the 47 years of marriage he shared with his wife, Claire.

Upon being honorably discharged from the military, Raymond was employed by the Exxon Corporation for 30 years, from which he retired. 

In addition to his wife, he is survived and will be deeply missed by his brother Leo Toupin and his wife Dorothy of Tyngsboro, and his sister, Alice (Toupin) Mahoney and her husband Francis of Dracut; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

He was predeceased by his brother Francis Toupin, and his sister-in-law, Terese (Provencher) Toupin.

ARRANGEMENTS: Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on THURSDAY, March 9th from 5 to 8 p.m. at the DRACUT FUNERAL HOME, 2159 Lakeview Ave., Dracut. His funeral will be held from the funeral home on FRIDAY, March 10th at 10 a.m. in St. Rita's Church, Lowell. A spring burial with Military Honors to take place in Boscawen Cemetery, Boscawen, NH at a date to be announced.
