There is an old adage that states lightning doesn’t strike twice.
The truth of that saying was called into question as the Dracut High School cheerleaders captured their second national title in three years on January 22, 2017.
Led by Coach Scott Rigoli, the team traveled to the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center in Dallas, Texas to compete against 210 cheerleading squads from around the country. After placing third during the first day of their divisional competition, the girls rallied and delivered a first place routine during the second day, capturing the title of Grand National Champions.
While proud of their championship, team captains Mikaylah Schwartz and Michelle Gaudreau both cite the bond created among the girls through the long and grueling hours of practice as the important and lasting prize.
Back in Dracut, the girls proudly displayed their four foot trophy. With such continued success over time, we are now all left to wonder: Can lightning strike three times? With the Dracut High School cheerleaders, that is entirely possible.
