Obituary: John C. Papachristos, 89

John C. Papachristos

LOWELL-   Mr. John C. Papachristos, 89, passed away Thursday February 2nd at LowellGeneral Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

John was born January 14, 1928 in New York, New York a son of the late Constantine and Vasilike (Comatos) Papachristos.   

He settled in Lowell at an early age with his family.  John served his country in the Navy during World War II and was honorably discharged on May 3, 1948.  John was educated through the Lowell Schools graduating from Lowell Technological Institute in 1970 where he received his Civil Engineering degree. Over the next thirty-five years he worked at the Massachusetts Highway Department starting as an assistant Projects Engineer and retiring as a Resident Engineer. 

John met his wife Catherine(Zaharias) Papachristos whom he married on December 27, 1959 and has celebrated fifty seven years of happiness.  He was a loving father and grandfather who enjoyed being with his family. John was also an active member of the Assumption of Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church in Dracut where he served as a  Board member of the Church and was active in many church events.  He enjoyed golf, watching football, traveling to Europe and Foxwoods.  

He is survived by his wife Catherine Papachristos, two daughters, Maria Zielinski and her husband William “Chuck” Zielinski,  Elaine Papachristos; a son, Basil Papachristos and his girlfriend Amanda Barker; his brother, Christos Papachristos and his wife Nancy; his grandchildren, Jonathan, Alexa, Katrina, Isabella, Andrea, and Basil II; and many nieces and nephews.   

ARRANGEMENTS - Relatives and friends will be received at the Assumption of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church in Dracut on Wednesday morning, February 8th  from 9:00am to 11:00 am.  His funeral service will follow at 11:00am at the Church.  Interment will be in Westlawn  Cemetery.  IN LIEU OF FLOWERS, memorial donations may be made in his memory to Assumption of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church1160 Mammoth Road Dracut, Ma. 01826.  Funeral arrangements under the direction M.R.
